How to Get Rid of Hives through Home Remedies


Skin hives is a common skin allergy, which appears as an itching ugly rash on the skin. These skin hives may last on the skin from few minutes to several weeks. It depends on the severity of the allergy. Hives give the skin raised, whitish and reddish welts with bad itching in rash of different sizes.

This common skin allergy can become serious if it have some additional problems along as breathing problems etc. patients of hives can have allergic reactions to many things as certain type of foods, cosmetic items, creams and lotions, perfumes, deodorants, plants, medications, bee stings, bites and some kind of synthetic fabrics. Much exercising, heat, cold, stress and exposure to certain dairy products or fish can trigger situation. The rash of the hives, which are known as welts, may vary their shapes in minutes. They can disappear and reappear within time.

The skin appears raised when suffering with this problem. Hives tend to give swelling to the skin surface, which at times is worse than itching and gives burning sensation. It affects mostly the skin around eyes and lips. It does rarely appear on the other body parts as hands, feet, throat and the genitals. Symptoms of hives are known as angioedema in medical terms. Among kids this problem appear when there is severe cough and cold or throat infection and in adults if they have the problem hepatitis B. in the rarest cases at times blood transfusion too causes the problem of hives.

Prevention from hives

certain prevention can protect you from getting the hives.
  • Avoid things you are allergic to. As some dairy products such as cottage cheese, milk or curd, beans, certain fruits, fish or some eatable colors.
  • Do not use substances you know that you have allergy with as some lotions, perfumes or soaps.
  • Avoid extreme heat or cold weather. Take proper protection from the weather fluctuating conditions.
  • Do not wear much tight fitted clothes.
  • Wear pure clothes as cotton. Avoid synthetic clothes as many times they cause allergy, which can result in hives.
  • Do not take bath with extreme hot or cold water.
  • Apply calamine lotion and take an antihistamine like benadryl or something else prescribed by the doctor.
  • If you have got hives, do not scratch or peel the skin. It can make the situation worse.

You can treat hives with some home remedies, which can be quite helpful in treating the allergy, but if the problem is severe or unbearable then go to a dermatologist to get a better treatment.

  • Take one tablespoon of olive oil or vegetable oil and mix few drops of grapefruit seed extract in it. Apply this mixture on the effected area of the skin.
  • Add grapefruit seed extract in a cup of water and spray this mixture on the effected skin whenever you want.
  • Take two ounces of witch hazel and add few drops of tea tree oil in it. Massage this mixture on the effected area. It soothes the burn and itching.
  • Aloe Vera gel is very healing on the burn and rashes caused by hives.
  • Vitamin E oil application on the skin is quite helpful if applied on the effected area of the skin.
  • Oatmeal is quite helpful in healing hives. Take one tablespoon of oatmeal powder and pour a cup of boiling water to it. Leave it for 30 minutes just like that. Strain this solution and apply it on the hives with a cotton ball.
  • Taking zinc and vitamin E and C supplements too help in healing the hives.
  • Lemon and honey flavored tea too have healing agents for hives.
