Rosemary and sage for hair loss

Rosemary and sage have been used historically in the Mediterranean region to treat hair loss, particularly in cases of alopecia. As with all baldness remedies, their ability to stimulate actual hair growth is questionable but this treatment is good for the scalp. It will also have a slight lightening affect on the hair.

Rosemary and sage as a remedy for hair-loss

Method

  • Boil together equal parts rosemary, sage and, if available, nettle. You can use both stems and leaves.
  • Strain liquid
  • Add to castile soap to make a shampoo
  • Use as little castile soap as possible to create a solution that lathers to your satisfaction. Too much castile will dry out the scalp
  • Use once or twice weekly

Why rosemary and sage are good for the scalp

Rosemary and sage are both astringents (they have a constricting affect on tissues). Rosemary has antiseptic properties and is a natural skin toner. The combination of the two cleanses pores, stimulates hair follicles and conditions the scalp.

Precautions

For external use only. If your skin has an adverse reaction to the treatment, discontinue use immediately.
